Hey guys, Happy Halloween !!!
Halloween is just around the corner and to make your cupcakes more spook-tacular, here is a Spider-man themed cupcake.
Spiderman has always been my favourite superhero of all times.I love his costume, the colors and the fact that he can jump and do all kinds of stuff :) . I have always wanted to do something with my cupcakes that had a Spiderman theme. So i tried a Spiderman themed icing which had a spider web in two colors- Red and Blue.I used a gel based food coloring and the colors looked amazing on these cupcakes.
This is the recipe for Chocolate Cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting.

Preparation time : 10 min
Cooking time : 16-20 min
Makes : 16 cupcakes
Ingredients for Chocolate Cupcakes:
- 1/2 cup or 50 grams of cocoa powder
- 175 grams all purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 113 grams unsalted butter at room temperature
- 200 grams granulated white sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
Ingredients for Vanilla Buttercream Frosting:
- 230 grams confectioners sugar or icing sugar
- 113 grams unsalted butter at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons milk or light cream
- Assorted food colors (red and blue)
Always have two separate bowls for the dry ingredients and wet ingredients.
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190
degrees C). Lightly butter your cupcake tray, or line 16 muffin cups with paper liners.
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cocoa powder and salt.
Then in another the bowl ,with your electric mixer, or with a hand
mixer, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs, one at a
time, beating until smooth. Add in the vanilla extract. Then add the flour mixture and beat until incorporated.
Fill each cup liner in the tray about two-thirds full with batter and
bake for about 16 - 20 minutes or until and a
toothpick inserted into a cupcake comes out clean. (Do not over bake or the
cupcakes will be dry.)
Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool. Once
the cupcakes have completely cooled, frost with your icing.
Preparing the icing :
In an electric mixer, or with a hand mixer, cream the butter until smooth and well blended.
Add the vanilla extract. With the mixer on low speed, gradually beat in the sugar.
Add the milk and beat on high speed until frosting is light and fluffy. Add food colors if you want the icing to be colorful.

Using a spatula spread the icing on each cupcake(or) you can use a piping bag with various icing tips and decorate your cupcakes.
Spiderman decoration on the icing:
For this decoration i used a Wilton Round Decorating Tip .
I have used blue and red colors since the theme is Spiderman. Pour a few drops of each food color into the icing separately and mix them well.
Using a flat end spatula or a spoon just spread a little amount of uncolored icing on the cupcake which acts as a background.

Using a spatula take a large amount of the icing into the icing bag and start drawing spirals on the cupcake from inside to outside using the first color(blue).
Repeat the same procedure for the red color and pipe the spirals in between the blue icing. It should look something like this.Make sure that both the colors do not mix.
Now take a toothpick and from the center, make a line from inward toward outward in one quick motion.Repeat until you get something like this.
There you go.Easy Spiderman themed cupcakes for your spook-tacular Halloween.
